If heading off to university, embarking on solo living for the first time, or just keen for an all-round introduction to some delicious new recipes and skills, this is the cooking course for you. Over three days, you will cover a range of dishes and meals starting with quick and easy ideas, batch-cooking recipes to make ahead, and finally, impressive sharing dishes for enjoying together with new friends. What to expect

With our Kitchen skills for life classes, we want to make sure everyone gets the best start they can when beginning to cook solo. Our chefs know that a little confidence in the kitchen goes a long way, whether that's making a quick meal, preparing for the week ahead or inviting mates over for a feast. It's all easy when you know how!

Over three days you'll cover a range of skills and recipes, ranging from snacks and breakfasts, to full dinners and puddings. Each day has a different theme to help set you up with essential cooking experience for everyday life:

QUICK AND EASY: Sometimes you just need to be able to get a meal on the table, fast! With some essential knife skills and confidence in core recipes, you'll always be ready to make a meal, completely stress-free. This is a great place to start if you're new to the kitchen and will set you up to start cooking on your own. 

Example recipes may include: Eggs and omelettes, Noodles and stir-fries, Quick pasta sauce

PREPARE AND BATCH: Organisation is the sign of a great chef. Learn how to get ahead with great batch cook recipes that will see you through the week, plus ingredients and skills that will make everyday easier (and more delicious!).

Example recipes may include: Beef ragu and tomato sauce, Curries and rice

SHARE AND IMPRESS: Eating with friends is so much fun, we want the cooking to be just as fun! Being able to create your own feasts that not only taste amazing but look good too, will mean you're always ready to throw a party and invite people over.

Example recipes may include: Risotto and focaccia

Class details

Guests: This class is aimed at anyone aged 16+

Class starts: 10am, arrive anytime from 9.30am to check in at reception

Class finishes: 3-3.30pm, depending on lunch break and time to finish dishes

Class size: Maximum 12 guests, some elements may require working in pairs with a classmate, don’t worry if you’ve come alone – it’s a great way to meet new people and have a laugh

Typical recipes and skills (we’ll cook the best available on the day, so we might surprise you!):

  • Essential knife skills
  • Different cooking techniques, including frying, roasting, slow-cooking and more
  • Baking methods, including different mixing, folding and kneading variations
  • Learning how to adapt some recipes to suit dietary needs, such as vegetarian substitutes 
  • Basic kitchen hygiene, organisation and storage advice
