What to expect

With our Taste of… classes we want to get you excited about some of the amazing food that’s being cooked all around the world. There’s so much to learn and discover when it comes to regional cuisines, from new flavours to age-old traditions, this is just the starting point for many more kitchen adventures to come.

Greek food is one of the many reasons this beautiful country is such a popular holiday destination. Abundant fruit and veg grown in the Mediterranean sunshine, stunning olive groves, and some of the oldest cooking and baking traditions in the world.

We're bringing a few of these ideas and traditions to our Woking Academy, with three recipes to learn in this three-hour Greek cooking class.

You'll start with making bread - you can't get more traditional than kneading and shaping dough, to bake and then share together. These pretty rings of sesame-topped dough are based on a style from Thessaloniki, and are the equivalent of Greek bagels. Fresh from the oven, they will be perfect for mopping up any leftovers from your next dish, a meaty stuffed aubergine.

With similar components to moussaka, this rustic version, with the meat and cheese fillings scooped into and on top of the aubergine, is what you'd be more likely to find in a Greek household. The beef mixture is flavoured with oregano, thyme and mint - key Greek herbs - and lightly spiced with cloves and cinnamon.

Cinnamon also features in a wonderful dessert cake that you can take home at the end of the class. Made with shredded filo pastry soaked in an orange and cinnamon syrup, this makes a beautifully fragrant and sweet end to any meal.

We can't wait for you to cook these recipes with us!

Due to the recipes in this class, we would not recommend it for a gluten-free or egg-free requirement.
